Engineering Design and It's Process
The Engineering Design Process and the Action Research Model serve as the foundation for this introduction to Engineering. Your child will help design innovative solutions in the fields of mechanical or civil engineering to address a real issue impacting the community. The field is subject to change based upon the community need selected and the interest of the class.
Robotics and The Internet of Things (2 - 4 Parts) Grades 6 - 11
This class will absolutely stun you! You will amaze yourself by building a robotic arm that you control over the Internet to make perform
incredible tasks - just as real robotic engineers do! You will learn about robotics as you build your own personal robotic arm. Using
your very own Aduino or Raspberry Pi, you will build a simple computer, too, and learn to program it to make it control your robotic arm
to perform a myriad of tasks applying serious science and learning concepts to design, create, and engineer a functional robot. You will be
introduced to the basics of motors, gears, sensors, batteries, programming and assembly of mechanical/electrical devices. Projects include
programming, ultra sound, light, touch, and other robotic sensors. You will be prepared to enter your personal robots in group events and
competitions. And, this is only the beginning! College, here I come!

Engineering principles become second nature in learning the concepts to design, create, engineer, and program a robot. The basics
of motors, gears, sensors, batteries, assembly of mechanical and electrical devices are explored with the programming of light sensors.

While learning concepts to design, create, and engineer a functional robot, skills include programming, ultra sound, light, touch, and other
robotic sensors plus the basics of motors, gears, sensors, batteries, programming and assembly of mechanical and electrical devices.

Civil Engineering To Get to the Other Side
"Javier Builds a Bridge", a story about a boy who needs a safe footbridge to get to his island play fort, introduces the principles behind bridge design. When civil engineers design bridges, they must take into account factors like balance and motion - and so must Javier. Learn about “push” and “pull” as you explore how forces act on different structures. Use what you know about balance and force as you experiment with beam, arch, and suspension bridges—and learn how to design challenge, students plan, build, and test your own bridges.
