Flight & Aviation:

This class began with a discussion about airplanes with students making their own paper airplanes.  Using the Engineering Design Process, they modified their designs until they met certain flying requirements, From there students made balsam airplanes and watched a video explained by our female commercial pilot who provided classroom flight simulators with pedals and steering wheels giving students a real feel for how it feels to fly.  The next day, we took a trip to Lewis University Flight School where the students received a college-style lecture for new pilots from a flight professor.

From the classroom they went to explore real jet engines and then to experience real flight simulators used in training pilots.  Due to the rain, they were not able to to actually fly the Cessna as previous classes had done.  But, they did get to sit in the cockpit of a Boeing 73  and learn how the controls of the jet worked. Throughout the course, the students learned about the various occupations association with Flight and Aviation as well as some of the college requirements.  At The Learnatory, we always make the experience as immersive as possible.
