Parents, does your child spend hours

at their computer or game console

playing Minecraft?

Well, that may not be a bad thing.  This simple building-blocks game is one the few that successfully educates and entertains players.  Among other reasons, it helps your child develop and improve their visuospatial reasoning skills (aka visual perception of objects).  Using Java™ coding, students create brand new ideas and implement them into their very own worlds. Results will astound when written script transforms into a game, making Minecraft truly their own.    Level 2 continues in the Spring Session with more advanced coding in Java.

Robotics and the Internet of Things Parts 1 & 2

Grades 5 - 11     3:45 pm - 5:00 pm   

How does the Engineering Design Process impact the function of robots?

By applying science and engineering concepts to design, create, and engineer a functional robot, students are exposed to the assembly and programming of mechanical/electrical devices.  An Introduction to IoT prepares students to build their first Internet of Things device in Part 2.  Each student takes home their own robot and mini-computer.

Creating 3-D Animations & Special Effects  Parts 1 & 2

How do video games use coding to generate movement and visual and 
audio effects?

Students get a fun introduction to the Python programming language and object-oriented coding through the use of Blender, a professional 3-D computer graphics software  toolset used for creating animated films, visual effects, art, 3-D printed models, interactive 3-D applications and video games. As you build your own games, explore basic programming, concepts and learn to write in real code, you will enhance your games with images and sound.

Developing Math Speed & Strategies for Success

Mental computing is a part of daily life and is especially important when taking math tests.  Students practice discussing, identifying, and explaining the thought processes of problem-solving.   This is a 2-part course.

How is our conception of algebra impacted by our knowledge of

generalized arithmetic?
The focus in this class is on operations and processes rather than numbers and computations. When algebra is studied this way, the rules for manipulating letters and numbers in equations don't seem arbitrary, but instead are a natural extension of what we know about computation.
