Build and Code Your Own Take-Home Laptop

Build a laptop in this course that combines hardware and software knowledge for a hands-on approach to computer science. Students will put together their pi-top laptop—that's theirs to take home—from a Raspberry Pi and other circuit boards. They'll learn to troubleshoot their hardware assembly and then it's time to boot up the computer—that they built—to experience the thrill of coding in Python. With an introduction to hardware, engineering, and coding, this course has something for everyone.

Culinary Arts & Microwave Cooking

Have you ever wondered why olive oil is a liquid but butter is solid? Or why bread and cookies rise when baked? This Kitchen Chemistry course is an experimental approach to chemistry, as seen in cooking. We will examine topics such as trans fats, baking soda as a leavening agent in baking, ripening of fruit, artificial sweeteners, GMOs, and enzymatic and non-enzymatic browning of foods. Edible experiments will be used to discuss the science behind recipes. 


In this course, your child will:

  • Learn lab safety, vocabulary terminology, and applied mathematics  
  • Understand and apply the scientific method
  • Review and apply mathematics for recipe development

With Unreal Engine by Epic Games, you'll design your own Fortnite-inspired levels while discovering gameplay strategies, game mechanics, team-building, streaming, and level-design analysis in Fortnite. Tiny Chemistry: Introduction to Nanotechnology/Science + Engineering = Nanotechnology & Microbiology
From smaller, more powerful phones to nano-bots making repairs at the cellular level in our bodies, nanotechnology is becoming an important field. At the nanometer-scale (one billionth of a meter!), materials behave very differently. By taking advantage of these unique properties, scientists and engineers are able to enter realms of science that have been thus far unreachable. In this lab-based course, students learn about the chemistry of nano-sized particles and the scientific and societal impacts of nanotechnology. Students experience hands-on chemistry by making their own nanoparticles and microcapsules as well as exploring observable effects at the nanoscale.  In Part 2, they explore the world of the microscopic.

  • Understand that Nanotechnology = Science + Engineering
